How long does a fragrance last?

There are several definitions of the lasting power of a fragrance.

Factors affecting fragrance longevity:

• Concentration – higher = longer-lasting

• Wearer’s skin type - dry, normal, or oily?

• Wearer’s body chemistry - acidic or not?

What should you look for in a fragrance?

 • Lasts long

• Liked by the opposite sex • Affordable and has value

• Can be worn often (”everyday” wear)

• Brand / design / packaging - Is it ‘grammable? • Emotional appeal

Are there fragrance rules?

 YES. Personal fragrances should NEVER dominate its surroundings

Suggestions for occasions:

i. business-like settings, use light scents

ii. time of the day: day-wear: light / fresh notes

night-wear: warm, more concentrated

iii. season: warm seasons – fresh, floral, citrus

cold weather – ambery, woody

How much fragrance should be applied?

 A matter of personal preference but be aware of your surroundings

Where and how should you apply fragrances?

 To maximize the fragrance, apply on pulse points to intensify the fragrance. If you want the fragrance to last, spray on other parts of the body away from your pulse points (shoulders or arms)

What does fragrance life mean?

 Can mean 2 things: How long a fragrance lasts on the skin or shelf life.

Fragrances are given a 2-year expiry BUT if the fragrance is kept properly in a cool, dry place, it can last far longer than 24 months.

How can you tell if a fragrance has spoiled?

 Deterioration in color, when it thickens and the trace of sour resinous smell when opening the bottle.
